Where People Can Be Themselves Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! Oh my goodness – we were BUSY!! How, how, how did we have enough food? How in the heck did we have enough time? How in the world did we have enough volunteers? I don’t know, but it was Great! It was Energizing! It was Joyful! It was Amazing! This morning I was showing two new volunteers around. They’ve been there maybe 5 minutes when one of my favorite shoppers comes up. This guy – I love him so much. He’s sweet and
Watching the Shelves Go Bare Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! Beautiful, Warm Day. Perfectly Lovely. 103 shoppers - it was smooth as buttah. Most of you know that on Fridays we do all the food pickups and stock the shelves for Saturdays. Well yesterday we made a huge food order (our largest ever) and we crammed food into every nook and cranny of our little place. We kept moving stuff around and re-packing boxes over and over to make everything fit! Well, 103 families later, and our shelves are almost bare. We ha
Giving to Others Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! We were given some wonderful gifts this week. Ms. Bates and Ms. Hunt gave us an amazing amount of canned goods through a project with their students. Peanut Butter (TLPTC LOVES PB!), Chunky Soups and Canned Fruit! The stuff that our dreams are made of. Our shelves looked better than they have in a year and a half! But it didn't stop there ~ Ms. Batson gave us an amazing amount of produce! Sweet Potatoes, Onions and these cute little Squash - also the stu
Jimi Hendrix vs. Chicken Noodle Soup Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! I read a book excerpt not long ago. It was “They came to our outreaches for the food and clothing, but returned to the streets still hungry, needy and hurting – week after week – month after month… To really make a difference, the intervention had to be holistic, going deeper than the needs of the body to lift the spirit while at the same time imparting practical guidance.” This has stuck with me since I read it. I was showing
The Cut Finger Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! There were so many things that made this a great day! Awesome new volunteers – Martha and Mary K. The Cumberland U Group sorted through mountains of shoes and clothes. Two big Food Drives come in this week. All great, but in my opinion, the best thing that happened today was a lady cut her finger. Ok – let me explain. There’s this lady – I’ll call her Rose. She’s….. different. A little gruff. A little defensi
Rowdy Dog Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! I usually write about one of my special guys or one of our awesome volunteers, but today I’ve been thinking about our favorite four legged shopper. His name is Rowdy Dog and if you don’t know him, check our photos and you will see him everywhere. I guess he’s our mascot. His dad thinks he’s a little Rowdy (obviously), but I choose to think he’s just happy about life and happy about this day and he wants to share his joy with al
More Than Food Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! We received an amazing gift today! A car load of food from someone who has become a great friend to TLPTC. She sent green beans, corn, fruit - all the things that are so important to keeping this place up and running. She doesn't want a big fuss - she doesn't want a lot of attention - she just wants to do something good for others. We hope she knows what a difference she is making in the world and we hope she knows how amazing we think she is. If yo
The Anticipation of New Volunteers Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! Super busy – I haven’t even counted how many shoppers we had today, but it was a lot. We also had a lot of new volunteers. A lot! It was awesome for us, but I was a little worried. It was crowded and loud and nutty and our place is ……… very real. It’s not like the DMV – people do not sit quietly staring at the floor, waiting for their turn. We sing happy birthday – we talk about who’s going into re-hab
Equal Parts of I Love You So Much and I Will Take You Down Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! Ok, today is Sunday – I didn’t write last night. I was out until the wee hours (at least it felt like it) with one of Santa’s Helpers. This lady, I think she may have originally come to us to shop – I’m not even sure, she’s been a volunteer for so long now. Well, not true – she’s only been volunteering for a short while – it just seems like forever. That’s what happens when a Place finds a
We are a Family Today was the Best Day Ever at TLPTC! We had a LOT of beautiful produce today! We love us some fresh stuff ~ asparagus and grapefruit and onions and carrots! Good for the body and good for the soul. But there’s more going on here than just the food. Towards the end of the morning, I sat down to chat with one of my shoppers. We watched a shopper and a volunteer cruise the aisles. They were laughing and talking and ended their shopping spree with a hug. He turned to me and said &ldquo
